Why consume the placenta

When we birth the placenta, the nutrients and hormones produced by the placenta are expelled from our own body, leaving us immediately depleted. It can take months for our hormones to level out. You ever wonder why most mammals eagerly consume their placenta after birth? It's not in an effort to clean their nest to avoid predators. It's to counteract the dynamic loss of hormones and nutrients that occurred during the birth.
By encapsulating and consuming the placenta, we are bridging the gap during this period to help maintain the body's equilibrium and provide a positive experience for the mother and child.

Benefits of Encapsulation

• Decrease in postpartum mood disorders
• Enhances milk supply
• Balances Hormones
• Increases energy levels
• Restores postpartum iron levels
• Shorten's postpartum recovery period
• Facilitates bonding with newborn

Our Services

To prepare a placenta for encapsulation, it needs to be refrigerated or placed on ice within 3 hours of birth and typically is processed within 1 to 3 days after birth. If properly handled the placenta can be refrigerated up to 5 days before being processed or frozen up to 6 months. The placenta is then cleaned, steamed or left raw, sliced, and dehydrated. The dried placenta is then ground into a powder and put into capsules like vitamins.

Steamed (Traditional Chinese Method -TCM)

The placenta has been used in Traditional Chinese Medicine for many generations; believing to restore the warmth a woman has lost following birth, and therefore assisting in her body’s re-balance, promoting an equal amount of yin (cold) and yang (warmth) once more. This fine balance between yin and yang also helps with our immune system. It is believed that our body’s natural immunity, known as Wei chi, is reduced post birth and is thought to be restored by adding heat. The steaming process itself directs heat at the placenta, in addition, heat is infused into the placenta through the use of lemon, ginger, turmeric, cayenne pepper, added into the water during the steaming process. Lemon is an antiseptic and helps to distribute the placenta throughout the body. Cayenne pepper and turmeric are warming herbs and thought to lend their properties to the placenta. Ginger specifically acts as a facilitator for energy and good blood flow. The steamed method of encapsulation will yield fewer capsules, as the steaming process does change the overall weight of the placenta, mostly from blood drainage. We use the highest quality, organic products that are added to the steaming water only.

The placenta is rinsed, steamed to 160°f internal temperature, sliced and dehydrated. The placenta is then ground into a powder and encapsulated.
• Recommended for all GBS positive clients *
• History of anxiety
• Caffeine Sensitivity
* This is only a recommendation and not a requirement for all GBS + clients

Raw Method

The placenta is rinsed, sliced, and then dehydrated at 160 degrees. The placenta is then ground into a powder for encapsulation. Some individuals have reported feeling jittery, overstimulated or feel like that consumed too much caffeine.
• Highest potency of nutrients and hormones
• Yields more capsules

Placenta Tincture

Placenta tinctures are an excellent method for utilizing the benefits of your placenta over the long term. They can be made from the raw placenta or placenta powder. Tinctures are made with 100 proof vodka or brandy to ensure purity and an extended shelf life. Tinctures are used for:
• energy boost
• hormonal balance
• PMS symptoms (Mother, daughter )
• menopausal transition ( Mother or her mother)
** Placenta tinctures take six weeks or more to make due to the fermentation process.**

Placenta Salve

Our restorative salve is composed of a proprietary blend of organic oils and herbs. It is suitable for use with or without placenta, and can be applied to nipples, cesarean section incisions, diaper rash, and minor cuts and abrasions.

Keepsakes

• Placenta Prints " The Tree of Life"- are made using the blood from the placenta or for a colored print Wilton food dye is applied and then rinsed prior to preparing the placenta for encapsulation.
• Umbilical Cord – the cord is shaped and then dried.
• Placenta Power – consumption isn’t for everyone. The placenta is dried, powered and placed in a decorative container.

Smoothies

A Placenta smoothie is a drink made by blending a walnut sized piece of the placenta with other ingredients such as fruit, juice, and milk or yogurt. They will come blended and pre-frozen.
